In line with Madurai’s growing industrial expansion and increasing transport needs, several infrastructure development works, including new roads and flyovers, have been undertaken under the DMK government. As part of these efforts, flyovers have already been constructed at the Koripalayam and Melamadai junctions to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across key parts of the city. In addition, major bypass road works are currently under way along the northern bank of the Vaigai, connecting Samayanallur to Arappalayam, as well as from Viraganur to Sakkudi. Continuing this development push, the road widening work on the Madurai–Thirumangalam National Highway from Mandela Nagar to Madurai Airport, covering a distance of nearly 2.5 kilometres, has also been completed at a cost of Rs 9 crore.
