Residents living in Santosham Nagar under Ward 100 of the Madurai Corporation have alleged that they have been suffering for several years due to the lack of basic civic amenities in the locality. The residential area, situated on the road connecting Avaniyapuram Bypass Road and Periyar Nagar, is home to more than 500 families who continue to face severe hardships because of poor infrastructure. Residents stated that despite submitting repeated petitions to the concerned authorities, no permanent solution has been implemented so far.
The absence of proper tar roads has reportedly made commuting extremely difficult, especially during the rainy season when the roads turn muddy and waterlogged. School students, women, senior citizens, and two-wheeler riders are among the worst affected, as they are forced to travel through damaged and unsafe roads every day. Residents further claimed that potholes and poor maintenance have increased the risk of accidents in the area.
