Tamil Nadu’s transport authorities have planned additional special bus services from Chennai and other major cities from October 1 to 4 to handle increased passenger demand during the Gandhi Jayanti holiday weekend, with 1,985 special buses scheduled from Chennai’s Kilambakkam, Koyambedu and Madhavaram terminals alone on October 1. The additional services are intended to support passengers travelling across Tamil Nadu during the three-day holiday period covering October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, October 3 and October 4.
Special Services Planned for the Long Holiday Weekend
Passengers, special buses will connect Chennai and other major cities with Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchi, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and several other destinations,
From Kilambakkam, 1,580 special buses are planned for October 1, followed by 745 buses on October 2 and 895 buses on October 3,
From Koyambedu, 220 special buses will operate on October 1 to destinations including Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur and Bengaluru, while 115 buses each are planned for October 2 and 3,
From Madhavaram, 185 special buses are planned for October 1, while 90 buses each will operate on October 2 and 3 to Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchi, Kumbakonam, Vellore, Hosur, Puducherry and other destinations,
A further 200 special buses are planned from Bengaluru, Tiruppur, Erode and Coimbatore to various destinations, while 1,471 special buses are scheduled for October 4 to facilitate passengers returning from their hometowns to Chennai and Bengaluru,
Advance bookings indicate significant demand during the holiday period, with 28,402 passengers booked for Thursday, 5,497 for Friday, 6,744 for Saturday and 24,123 for Sunday, according to the transport department’s announcement,
The additional services have been arranged to meet passenger demand and reduce pressure on regular services during the extended holiday period, while passengers can make advance reservations through the TNSTC website and mobile application. The Managing Director of the State Express Transport Corporation said the special services were being arranged in view of the expected increase in passenger movement during the holiday period.
