Actor Vijay’s political party, Tamil Nadu Victory Party (TVK), is set to hold its second state conference on August 21 in the Parapatti area of Madurai district. Preparations are underway in a 600-acre ground near the Parapatti-Aaviyur section on the highway from Madurai to Tuticorin. Various committees including coordination, women’s safety, and medical teams have been appointed for the event.
Due to Vijay’s visit and the conference, traffic arrangements have been changed in Madurai. Similar to the previous conference, a nearly 1 km long “Ram Walk” has been organized where Vijay will walk and greet his party workers on both sides of the route. The event is being organized meticulously with attention to water, food, parking, and transport facilities to avoid any issues.
However, a big controversy has erupted over a single banner displayed at the conference venue. The banner features prominent photos of former Chief Ministers Annadurai (Anna) and M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) alongside the slogan “History is turning back.” Both DMK and AIADMK parties have strongly opposed the use of these photos in the TVK event.
This is the first time TVK’s conference has displayed the actual photos of Anna and MGR, previous influential leaders of DMK and AIADMK respectively. Earlier, Vijay’s party ideology mostly highlighted figures such as Thanthai Periyar, Ambedkar, Kamaraj, and Velu Nachiyar, with the images of Anna and MGR appearing only as shadowy silhouettes in black color instead of direct portraits.
At the Madurai event, Vijay’s photo is flanked by large images of Anna and MGR on either side on stage, while smaller photos of other ideological leaders are also present. The use of former ruling party leaders’ photos has drawn harsh criticism from both DMK and AIADMK, especially since Vijay has previously expressed opposition against these parties.
The political tension has now intensified with the opposition parties reacting strongly to the presence of Anna and MGR’s images at the TVK conference. The event continues to attract attention as it unfolds in this politically charged atmosphere.
