24-Hour Poll Monitoring Begins in Madurai

Ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, GPS-enabled surveillance vehicles used by flying squads and monitoring teams were flagged off on Sunday by Madurai District Election Officer and Collector K.J. Praveenkumar. The launch event was held at the Madurai District Collectorate campus, where officials explained the monitoring measures planned to ensure strict enforcement of election rules. With the Election Commission announcing that the Assembly election will be held on April 23, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect, prompting authorities to intensify monitoring across the district.

Ninety flying squad teams for each Assembly constituency, ninety static surveillance teams, GPS-enabled monitoring vehicles, round-the-clock surveillance, measures to prevent violations of the Model Code of Conduct.

Deployment of 14,779 polling officials across the district, establishment of monitoring centres to receive election-related complaints, coordinated operations by flying squads and static surveillance teams, security arrangements to ensure peaceful conduct of polling.

During the launch event at the Madurai District Collectorate, District Election Officer and Collector K.J. Praveenkumar flagged off the GPS-enabled surveillance vehicles. Madurai City Police Commissioner J. Loganathan, District Superintendent of Police P.K. Aravind, election officials, revenue officers and flying squad personnel were also present at the event and reviewed the preparedness for election monitoring duties.

Officials stated that the monitoring teams will function round the clock across the district to detect and prevent violations of election rules. The public has been urged to immediately report any election-related complaints or violations through the Election Commission’s official mobile application or designated email channels so that prompt action can be taken by the authorities.
