Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted searches today at the residence and premises linked to senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister for Rural Development, I. Periyasamy. The raids began early in the morning and are underway in Chennai, Dindigul, Madurai, and other locations.

Sources say the searches are related to a case alleging disproportionate assets during his tenure as the Minister for Housing and Urban Development between 2006 and 2011. The case is currently under judicial review.

According to close aides, Minister Periyasamy had just arrived in Dindigul this morning from Chennai and was resting due to health concerns when he was informed of the ED’s arrival.

Despite the sudden development, sources say the Minister spoke to the ED officials in a calm and composed manner. Reportedly, he told them:

“This raid was expected. We’ve been actively strengthening the DMK in the southern region. With elections approaching, this seems like a move to disrupt our campaign efforts. But I won’t be shaken – in fact, I’ll work with even more speed and determination. Do whatever you must. Let’s see how it goes.”

Following his statement, ED officials are said to be conducting a meticulous, inch-by-inch search of the Minister’s residence.

The DMK sees this as a politically motivated move, hinting that such raids are aimed at weakening opposition leaders ahead of the 2026 Assembly Elections. Official statements and outcomes from the raids are yet to be released.
