The Aadi Perunthiruvizha at Kallazhagar Temple in Azhagar Kovil, near Madurai, is considered highly significant. This year’s festival began on August 1 with the ceremonial flag hoisting.

In the days that followed, Lord Sundararaja Perumal was taken in procession on various vahanams, including Swan, Lion, Hanuman, Garuda, Sesha, Elephant, Pushpa Chapparam, and Horse.

Main Event – Chariot Procession
The highlight of the festival, the grand chariot procession (Therottam), is scheduled to take place today after 8:40 a.m. The five-tier chariot stands 51 feet tall and is adorned with over 300 sculptures. A new rope has been attached for devotees to pull the chariot this year.

Arrangements & Security
With thousands of devotees expected to participate, temple authorities have arranged water tanks, parking facilities, temporary toilets, a medical camp, and fire safety measures. Around 1,000 police personnel will be deployed for security.
