Avani Moola Thiruvizha is one of the important spiritual festivals observed in Madurai every year during the Tamil month of Avani (August/September). This festival is especially celebrated with great devotion at the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai.
In the year 2025, this festival will be celebrated on September 2nd.
During the festival, Lord Sundareswarar (Shiva) and Goddess Meenakshi are taken out in grand processions on various decorated chariots and vehicles. Additionally, spiritual events such as Thiruvilayadal (divine plays of the deities) are conducted throughout the festival.
