Court Allows Traditional Deepam at Hilltop Lamp Post

The Madurai Bench of the High Court has granted permission to light the Karthigai Deepam on the hilltop lamp post at Tirupparankundram, revered as one of the sacred abodes of Lord Murugan.

The HR&CE Department had earlier denied permission citing safety concerns, prompting petitioner Ram. Ravikumar of Ezhumalai to challenge the decision.

Justice G.R. Swaminathan ruled that the Deepam may be lit at the hilltop, and directed the police to ensure complete security arrangements for the event.

Devotees have welcomed the verdict with joy, as lighting the Deepam on the hilltop is a long-standing traditional practice.
