Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections: Political Campaign Gains Momentum

With the launch of election duties, campaign activities have intensified across Tamil Nadu. The political landscape is heating up as various parties roll out state-wide tours, conferences, and public meetings ahead of the Assembly elections.

The ruling DMK is moving forward with election preparations alongside a strong alliance. Backed by several welfare schemes, the government is said to enjoy considerable public support. Political observers note that both governance performance and alliance strength have positioned the DMK confidently for the next phase of the elections.

In contrast, uncertainty continues to surround the BJP–AIADMK alliance. There is still no clarity on which parties will formally join the front. While only the Anbumani faction of the PMK has aligned so far, leaders such as TTV Dhinakaran, O. Panneerselvam, and other parties remain outside the alliance framework.

BJP Leadership Push Ahead of Prime Minister’s Tour

Taking note of the weak alliance structure, senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have been making frequent visits to Tamil Nadu to hold discussions. With the Prime Minister scheduled to tour the state soon, the BJP leadership is keen to finalize alliances before his meetings, ensuring coalition leaders share the stage during campaign events.

During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Prime Minister visited Tamil Nadu nearly ten times. Since then, he has visited only twice. Now, in the run-up to the Assembly elections, a series of campaign tours is planned.

Madurai and Kanyakumari Rallies

As part of this campaign, the Prime Minister is set to visit Madurai on the 23rd. He will address a public meeting organized by the BJP at the Vandiyur Ring Road grounds. BJP and AIADMK leaders have jointly submitted an application to the Madurai Police Commissioner seeking permission for the event.

Initially, the rally was planned at Thiruparankundram. However, to accommodate a larger crowd, the venue was shifted to the Vandiyur Ring Road grounds near Pandikovil. There is also speculation that the Prime Minister may visit the Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple during his trip.

Following the Madurai rally, the Prime Minister is scheduled to campaign at a public meeting in Kanyakumari on the 28th.

Remark Sparks Discontent

AIADMK former minister Sellur Raju, while speaking to reporters, remarked that AIADMK leaders had merely accompanied BJP leaders to submit the rally permission request, using the term “swaga” to describe their role. His comment, implying passive endorsement, reportedly caused dissatisfaction among BJP members present at the scene.

Seat-Sharing Talks After Prime Minister’s Visit

Speaking at the Coimbatore airport, BJP state president Nainar Nagendran clarified that discussions on seat-sharing and political strategy would take place only after the Prime Minister’s visit to Tamil Nadu, noting that there was still time before the elections.

Booth-Level Mobilisation Intensifies

At a booth committee meeting held in Singanallur, Coimbatore, BJP national general secretary Nithin Nabin urged party workers to strengthen booth-level organization. He emphasized that even booth committee members could rise to leadership positions within the party and called for greater participation, especially with elections expected within the next 90 days.

Overall, as campaign activities accelerate and alliance negotiations continue, Tamil Nadu’s Assembly election battle is steadily moving into a decisive and high-intensity phase.
