With more women entering government service, especially those moving to cities from rural or distant areas, there arose a growing need for safe and affordable accommodation. To address this, both central and state governments introduced the concept of Working Women’s Hostels.
Objectives of the initiative:
In Tamil Nadu, such hostels have been in operation since the 1980s, with government-run hostels set up in cities like Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore.
