Government-Run Women’s Hostel

With more women entering government service, especially those moving to cities from rural or distant areas, there arose a growing need for safe and affordable accommodation. To address this, both central and state governments introduced the concept of Working Women’s Hostels.

Objectives of the initiative:

  • To provide safe and secure accommodation for working women
  • To offer basic amenities including food at subsidized rates
  • To create an environment that encourages independent living for women in urban areas

In Tamil Nadu, such hostels have been in operation since the 1980s, with government-run hostels set up in cities like Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore.

Address:

Mastana Wedding Hall, Sumpurapuram, 4th Street, Goripalayam, Madurai – 2.
