Union Minister Piyush Goyal has said that justice has been delivered to Murugan devotees following the order of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, which permitted the lighting of the sacred lamp on the pillar at the summit of Thirupparankundram hill.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP Headquarters, Piyush Goyal stated that the two-judge bench has categorically ruled that lighting the lamp atop Thirupparankundram hill, where Lord Murugan resides, is an ancient tradition that has been followed for centuries. He emphasized that this issue is closely connected to Hindu religious practices and the sentiments of the local people.
He alleged that the verdict has exposed the stand of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Congress, and other parties in the INDIA alliance.
Piyush Goyal accused DMK, Congress, and their allies of repeatedly making statements against Hindus. He asserted that the BJP has always stood for protecting the nation’s secular character while opposing appeasement politics. He added that the BJP will not tolerate any attempt to divide people on the basis of caste or religion.
Referring to recent elections in Bihar and the Maharashtra local body polls, Goyal said the National Democratic Alliance achieved significant victories and expressed confidence that people of southern states would also give a fitting response to the DMK and its alliance partners whenever given the opportunity.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s reaction:
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, in a post on X, said the Madurai Bench’s verdict has simultaneously exposed the Congress–DMK alliance’s opposition to Sanatana Dharma and their willingness to go to any extent to appease minorities. He added that the people would strongly punish the alliance.
Union Minister of State L. Murugan:
Union Minister of State L. Murugan said the verdict delivers a strong message to the Tamil Nadu government and the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. He urged the DMK government to stop misusing its authority and strictly follow the High Court’s direction to light the lamp on the Deepam pillar every year on the day of Karthigai Deepam.
Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran:
Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran said that the DMK government’s announcement that it would file an appeal even after the verdict clearly reflects its anti-Tamil cultural stance. He added that the day is not far when both the lamp will be lit on the Deepam pillar and the DMK government will be removed from power in Tamil Nadu.
TMC Leader G. K. Vasan:
Tamil Maanila Congress leader G. K. Vasan welcomed the verdict allowing the lighting of the lamp on the Deepam pillar at the summit of Thirupparankundram hill. He said the ruling stands as an example that the Tamil Nadu government should not have created unnecessary fear among the public when there was no law-and-order issue.
