Kallazhagar’s Divine Wedding Tomorrow at Azhagar Temple

The annual Panguni celestial wedding festival at Madurai’s Azhagar Temple is progressing today with heightened spiritual fervour and large crowds of devotees. As part of the ongoing celebrations, the sacred thread-tying ritual for Lord Kallazhagar and the consorts was held yesterday. Today evening, the processional deity of Lord Kallazhagar, accompanied by Sridevi, Bhoodevi and temple attendants, is set to once again proceed through the Adi streets and arrive at the Thirukalyana Mandapam. The most important event of the festival, the divine wedding ceremony, is scheduled to take place tomorrow, April 1, between 9:00 AM and 9:20 AM.

During yesterday’s event, special Deeparadhana was offered to the deity and the consorts amid the chanting of Vedic hymns by temple priests. The deity later returned to the sanctum at night. Today’s and tomorrow’s events are being regarded as major occasions for devotees seeking darshan. The April 1 celestial wedding is especially significant, as Lord Kallazhagar will ceremonially wed Sridevi, Bhoodevi, Kalyana Sundaravalli Thayar and Andal together on a single stage in the presence of Periyazhwar. The rare and sacred spectacle is expected to attract tens of thousands of devotees from across Tamil Nadu.

The temple administration has stated that all arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of tomorrow’s wedding ceremony and the concluding Manjal Neer ritual on April 2.
