Special Yagasala Poojas Begin Ahead of Maha Kumbabhishekam and Kudamuzhukku Festival at Thirupparankundram Subramaniya Swamy Temple, Madurai District
In preparation for the Maha Kumbabhishekam and Kudamuzhukku festival at the revered Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Thirupparankundram, Madurai district, special yagasala poojas commenced on Thursday, 10th July 2025.
Yagasala Poojas:
A specially decorated yagasala (ritual fire altar area) has been set up in front of the Valli Devasena Mandapam within the temple premises.
A total of 75 yaga kundams (sacrificial fire pits) have been established for various deities as follows:
- Subramaniya Swamy โ 25
- Satyagiriswarar โ 9
- Govardhana Ambikai โ 9
- Karpaga Vinayagar โ 5
- Durga Amman โ 5
- Rajagopuram โ 5
- Parivara Deities โ 17
The rituals involve the use of 96 types of herbs, 9 varieties of holy twigs (samith), and 400 gold and silver pots, along with 100 brass and copper pots filled with sacred waters from the Ganges, Kaveri, Kasi, and other holy rivers.
The poojas are being performed with the participation of:
- 200 Sivacharyas (priests)
- 70 Oduvars (temple singers)
- 30 Nadaswaram artists
- 20 Vedic scholars for Guru Veda Parayanam
Key Rituals:
Ceremonial events such as Vinayaka Pooja, sprinkling of holy water, and tying of the sacred thread (Kankana Dharanam) are being held as part of the Yagasala proceedings.
Maha Kumbabhishekam Ceremony:
The grand Maha Kumbabhishekam will take place on Monday, 14th July 2025, between 5:25 AM and 6:10 AM.
Local Holiday Announcement:
A local holiday has been declared on Monday, 14th July 2025 for all:
- Schools
- Colleges
- Government offices
within the Thirupparankundram division.
However, it is clarified that scheduled examinations will proceed as planned. Therefore, students, teachers, and relevant staff involved in examinations will not fall under this holiday.
As a substitute for this local holiday, Saturday, 19th July 2025, will be observed as a working day.
To meet essential needs, subordinate government offices will operate with minimal staff, as stated by the district administration.
