Five shade tents were handed over to the administration of the Kallazhagar Temple at Alagar Kovil near Madurai on Tuesday to facilitate devotees during the upcoming summer season. The tents, sponsored by a private company, were installed to protect devotees from intense heat while standing in long queues for darshan. The initiative was undertaken jointly by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, donors, and private organizations in anticipation of increased footfall during summer. Special poojas were performed before the tents were opened for public use.

With the onset of summer, the number of devotees visiting Alagar Kovil is expected to rise significantly. Devotees often endure prolonged waiting periods in open areas, exposing them to harsh sunlight and high temperatures. Considering these challenges, the temple administration facilitated the installation of shade tents at strategic points along the queue route.

The newly installed tents have been positioned to cover the extended queue pathways, ensuring that devotees remain shielded from direct exposure to the sun. Temple authorities also indicated that drinking water and other essential amenities have been arranged to enhance visitor comfort.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by temple officials, representatives of the HR&CE Department, donors, and members of the sponsoring private company.

In an official statement, the temple administration affirmed that additional phased measures would be implemented to ensure devotees can have darshan without inconvenience during the peak summer months.
