Tamil Nadu Highways Minister E.V. Velu personally inspected the ongoing construction of the ₹150-crore Goripalayam flyover in Madurai and held discussions with officials.

He tested the load-bearing strength of the concrete pillars using specialized equipment to ensure quality and safety standards.

The Minister said:

“Since the DMK came to power, several development projects have been implemented across South Tamil Nadu, which was neglected for over a decade.
The long-pending Goripalayam Flyover project is now 97% complete. The remaining work will be finished by December 1, and the bridge will be inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on December 7.

The project faced a six-month delay due to a court case over land acquisition involving a private college, but other works progressed rapidly.

After the bridge becomes operational, the Highways Department will study the feasibility of building an underpass or alternative routes to ease traffic congestion. Chief Engineer Sathyaprakash is monitoring progress weekly.

The Minister also noted that a new Bridge Safety & Quality Division has been created under the Dravidian Model government. Only bridges certified by this division will be opened for public use.

With American technology applied in design, the flyover will feature enhanced safety measures to minimize accidents on curves and slopes.

Additionally, a feasibility report for expanding the South Gate–Villapuram railway flyover will be prepared soon.
