A global-level Hockey festival is coming to Madurai! A ₹20 crore international-standard hockey stadium has been established at the Madurai Racecourse grounds under the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu.
The Hockey World Cup Tournament will be held from November 28 to December 10, with participation from 24 teams across 12 countries, including India, Argentina, Japan, Canada, and Russia.
District Collector Praveen Kumar announced that a grand cultural welcome will be organized for the international players at the historic Alanganallur Jallikattu Arena on December 5.
Arrangements include 40,000 liters of water for turf maintenance, 1450 temporary seats, two galleries for over 300 spectators, LED screens for large gatherings, 24×7 police security, and hotel accommodations in eight private lodges.
Public entry is free via QR-coded e-tickets, available online from tonight. Spectators must use Gate No. 6 for entry. Matches will follow league format and will be held in both Chennai and Madurai.
Special arrangements are being made for school and college students to experience the matches live.
