Major Express Trains to Depart from Tambaram – Full List Inside!

Due to the ongoing ₹1,500 crore redevelopment work at Chennai Egmore Railway Station, several express trains that usually depart from Egmore will be temporarily operated from Tambaram and Chennai Beach stations, according to a press release from Southern Railway.

As part of the station’s modernization, all 11 platforms at Egmore are being renovated, and a grand skywalk is also being constructed for easy passenger movement. To facilitate these works, changes in train operations have been made.

📌 List of Affected Trains:

  1. Rockfort Express (12653/12654)
    • Chennai Egmore – Tiruchchirappalli (12653): Will depart from Tambaram from September 11 to November 10.
    • Tiruchchirappalli – Chennai Egmore (12654): Will terminate at Tambaram from September 10 to November 9.
  2. Pandian Express (12637/12638)
    • Madurai – Chennai (12638): Will terminate at Tambaram from September 10 to November 9.
    • Chennai Egmore – Madurai (12637): Will depart as usual from Egmore.
  3. Chozhan Express (22661/22676)
    • Chennai Egmore – Tiruchchirappalli (22661): Will depart from Tambaram from September 11 to November 10.
    • Tiruchchirappalli – Chennai (22676): Will run up to Egmore as usual.
  4. Rameswaram Express (22661)
    • Chennai Egmore – Rameswaram: Will depart from Tambaram from September 11 to November 10.
    • Return service will terminate at Tambaram.
  5. Chennai – Mumbai CSMT Express
    • Will depart from Chennai Beach station from September 11 to November 10.
    • The return service from Mumbai will terminate at Egmore.

⚠️ Why the Change?

To facilitate major redevelopment works at Chennai Egmore, including platform upgrades and passenger amenities, train departures are being temporarily shifted.
