Mosques host overnight worship

n Madurai district, thousands of Muslims gathered at mosques across the region to observe Laylat al-Qadr, the 27th night of Ramadan, with night-long special prayers. Considered the night when the Holy Quran was revealed, devotees engaged in continuous worship, including prayers, recitation of the Quran, and supplications, seeking divine blessings. The observances continued until dawn, followed by the pre-dawn meal (Suhur) to begin the next day’s fast.

Mahaboobpalayam, Nelpettai, Hajimar Street, Kalainagar, Anaiyur, Valluvar Colony, Goripalayam, Silaiman, Thirumangalam, Thiruparankundram, Vadipatti, Melur, Usilampatti, Cholavandhan, Alanganallur and other parts of Madurai district.

At around 3 a.m., mosques in areas such as Mahaboobpalayam served Suhur meals to worshippers, enabling them to begin the next day’s fast. During Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting from dawn to dusk, abstaining from food and water, beginning their day with a pre-dawn meal and breaking the fast after sunset.

Laylat al-Qadr is believed to be more rewarding than a thousand months, making it one of the most significant nights in Islam. This belief led to a surge in attendance across mosques in the district, with devotees prioritizing night-long worship.

Religious authorities stated that the events were conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner across all locations.
