Grand Kumbabishekam at Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple After 14 Years

The Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple at Thirupparankundram, the most prominent among the six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu) of Lord Murugan, witnessed a magnificent Kumbabishekam (consecration ceremony) early this morning after a gap of 14 years. The holy event was conducted during an auspicious time between 5:45 AM and 6:15 AM.

Holy Water Rituals:

  • 4:30 AM – Sacred water, blessed in the yagasala, was carried in golden and silver pots.
  • 5:25 AM – The holy water was poured over the Rajagopuram and temple vimanas, completing the Kumbabishekam rituals.

Key Highlights:

  • The majestic Rajagopuram, standing at 125 feet, was renovated at a cost of ₹90 lakhs and painted in traditional Panchavarna (five-colored) design.
  • A special herbal coating using 55 types of herbs, known as Kalkam, was applied.
  • 150 Sivacharyas and 85 Vedic scholars participated in the rituals.
  • 8 sessions of yaga ceremonies had been conducted over the past several days.

Devotees and Arrangements:

  • Over one lakh devotees visited the temple in a single day.
  • 27 LED screens, 20+ drinking water stations, and ambulances and fire safety vehicles were stationed around the temple premises.
  • Free darshan has been arranged for all devotees today and tomorrow by cancelling paid darshan.
  • One lakh prasadam bags will be distributed to devotees.
  • Special buses were operated across the district for the convenience of visitors.

Festive Atmosphere:

  • The temple premises and Rajagopuram are beautifully decorated with electrical lighting.
  • A new illuminated “Vel” (spear) light board has been installed.
  • To manage large crowds, dedicated parking and guided walking paths have been arranged.
  • The entire town of Thirupparankundram has turned into a festive spiritual zone, marking a moment of immense religious pride and celebration for Madurai district.
