AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami recently demanded that the Madurai Airport be named after Muthuramalinga Thevar. This proposal has drawn strong opposition from several political leaders, including K. Krishnasamy, John Pandian, and T.T.V. Dhinakaran.
In response, Naam Tamilar Katchi Coordinator Seeman issued a strong statement expressing his party’s clear stance on the issue.
“One person wants it named after Thevar, another wants it named after Emmanuel Sekaran. But our stand is very clear – we don’t want the name of any grandfather (community leader). We have a glorious history tied to this land,” said Seeman.
He went on to propose a name rooted in Tamil history:
“No one will oppose if we name the airport after Pandya King Nedunchezhiyan of Thalaialangaanam. He was the one who upheld justice when Kannagi broke her anklet. If his name is not given, I will protest. And when we come to power, we will definitely name it after Nedunchezhiyan.”
This marks yet another powerful assertion by Seeman in defense of historical and cultural identity, placing Tamil heritage above political appeasement.
