In view of the Prime Minister’s participation in a National Democratic Alliance campaign rally scheduled for tomorrow evening in Madurai, extensive traffic diversions and security arrangements have been announced across the city. From 6:00 a.m. until late night, several key arterial roads will remain closed to regular traffic, and alternate routes have been designated for heavy vehicles, public transport, and vehicles attending the rally. Tight security surveillance will be enforced from the Madurai Airport corridor to the public meeting venue.
Affected Areas and Diversion Details:
Arupukottai Ring Road Junction to Viraganur Roundana, Madurai Airport–Perungudi Junction to Avaniyapuram Bypass and Tirupparankundram Road, Kappalur Bridge Junction, Nagamalai Pudukottai, Samayanallur, Thanichiyam Pirivu, Melur, Alagarkovil, Alanganallur, Sathirappatti, Poovanthi, and Tiruppuvanam.
Heavy goods vehicles are prohibited from using Arupukottai Ring Road and Kappalur Bridge routes from 6:00 a.m.; vehicles bound for southern districts must take the Alagarkovil–Alanganallur–Samayanallur diversion; trucks heading toward Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Virudhunagar must follow the Thirumangalam–Nagamalai Pudukottai route.
Goods vehicles proceeding toward Tiruchirappalli and Chennai must divert via Melur–Alagarkovil–Sathirappatti; vehicles bound for Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram must use Poovanthi–Tiruppuvanam; traffic from Theni and Dindigul districts will be rerouted through Thanichiyam Pirivu–Alanganallur corridors.
Government and private buses from Mattuthavani and Periyar Bus Stand will operate via KK Nagar, Aavin Junction, Kabadi Roundana, Fatima College Junction, and Samayanallur; rally-bound vehicles will be parked near Amikka Hotel through Othakkadai Ring Road, Sivagangai Road, and Mandalanagar routes.
City police officials have urged the public to cooperate with the temporary arrangements and adhere strictly to the notified diversions to ensure smooth conduct of the Prime Minister’s visit.
