The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (Thavega) is set to conduct its second State Conference on August 25 in Madurai. In preparation for the event, the Madurai District Police have raised more than 20 questions seeking clarification from the party regarding the conference schedule, location, participant details, and security arrangements.
โ Police Seek Detailed Clarifications
Following a formal request from Thavega seeking permission to hold the event and for necessary police protection, a petition was submitted to Madurai District Superintendent of Police, Aravind. In response, the police have asked for detailed information including:
- The start and end times of the conference
- The exact venue details and ownership
- The dimensions of the stage to be erected
- Expected number of male, female, and child participants
The police have also instructed the party to provide full logistical and safety details in advance to ensure smooth proceedings.
โ Reference to Previous Conference
Thavegaโs first State Conference was held on October 27, 2024, in Vikravandi, Villupuram district. At that time as well, the police had requested a detailed list of event-related information from the organizers to maintain law and order. A similar approach is now being adopted for the upcoming Madurai conference.
โ Political Context Heats Up
With just 10 months remaining for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the stateโs political landscape is beginning to heat up.
- On one side is the INDIA alliance led by the DMK,
- On the other, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the AIADMK.
In contrast, the Thavega and DMDK parties have yet to declare whether they will contest independently or form an alliance โ a point of growing political speculation.
โ Ensuring Law and Order
Police sources indicate that the extensive questioning is part of a routine process to ensure law and order, crowd control, and public safety. Thavega is expected to respond with complete details soon, following which appropriate permissions and arrangements will be finalized.
Note: The conference announcement was recently made by Thavega leader Vijay, with the event seen as a key platform to prepare the party for the upcoming state elections and showcase its growing organizational strength.
