In a surprising development, DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth is likely to contest in the Madurai Central constituency, currently represented by DMK Minister P.T.R. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.
With just five months left for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, DMDK has yet to announce its alliance plans. During a recent meeting of district secretaries, Premalatha announced that the party’s alliance decision will be revealed at the Cuddalore conference in January.
Meanwhile, DMDK workers in Madurai have passed a resolution requesting that Premalatha contest from Madurai Central. The decision was officially approved during a DMDK booth agents’ meeting held in Madurai under her leadership.
This move has created a political stir in the region, as Madurai Central is considered one of DMK’s strongest bastions. A potential Premalatha vs PTR face-off could be one of the most talked-about contests in the upcoming election.
