Rs 2,000 Worth HPV Vaccine free for Medical Students

A special HPV vaccination camp was conducted on Tuesday at Madurai Government Medical College by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to prevent cervical cancer and five other related cancers, benefiting 1,500 undergraduate and postgraduate medical students with free immunization. The initiative was organized under the leadership of Dean Arul Sundaresan Kumar and inaugurated by District Cancer Prevention Programme Director Rotarian Vandana Palla, aiming to emphasize early vaccination and cancer prevention among young adults.

Significance of HPV Vaccination and Statistics
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) affects both men and women and is responsible for multiple cancers, including cervical cancer.
Vaccination between 18 and 26 years is strongly recommended, with earlier immunization offering better protection.
Statistics indicate that one in 25 women in India faces the risk of cervical cancer, with significant mortality rates reported.
Each vaccine dose costs up to Rs 2,000 in the private market, while the college camp provided it free of charge.

Doctors urged young people to proactively participate in preventive healthcare measures to reduce the rising burden of cancer in society.
