As part of the ongoing Teppam Festival at the Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, construction work for the floating platform (Teppam) is progressing at a rapid pace in the Teppakulam.

The Teppam Festival of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple began on the 21st with the flag hoisting ceremony. As part of the festival, Lord Sundareswarar, accompanied by Goddess Meenakshi, is taken out in procession with Priyavidai every day, both in the morning and evening, mounted on various vahanas.

On the 7th day of the festival, Tuesday, Goddess Meenakshi graced the streets in procession on the Yali vahana, while Lord Sundareswarar, accompanied by Priyavidai, came on the Nandikeswarar vahana.

The most significant event of the Teppam Festival, the Teppotsavam, during which the presiding deities circumambulate the Teppakulam on the float, is scheduled to take place this Sunday (February 1). In preparation for this grand event, work on constructing the floating platform in the Teppakulam is currently underway.

The floating platform is being assembled using more than 300 metal drums and hundreds of poles. Around 30 workers are continuously engaged in the construction process.

Once the float construction is completed, decorative panels and electrical lighting arrangements will be installed. Officials have stated that the float construction work is expected to be completed within the next two days, after which the decoration works will commence.
