Traffic Diversion for Two Days on Account of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar’s 118th Birth Anniversary

In view of the 118th birth anniversary celebrations of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, political leaders, dignitaries, and the public are expected to pay homage at the Thevar statue located at Kooripalayam Junction in Madurai.

Due to this, on October 29 (Tuesday) and October 30 (Wednesday), all vehicular movement through the Kooripalayam Junction will be completely restricted.

The Madurai City Police has announced temporary traffic diversions to ensure smooth movement for the public and traders.


🚗 No Entry for Vehicles

Except for vehicles attending Thevar Jayanthi celebrations, no other vehicles will be allowed to enter Kooripalayam Junction from the following roads:

  • M.M. Lodge Junction
  • Tamukkam Junction
  • Sivasanmugam Pillai Road Junction
  • Meenakshi College Flyover Junction

🚛 Ban on Heavy Vehicles

  • Dates: October 29 & 30
  • Time: 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM
  • Restriction: Entry of lorries and heavy goods vehicles into Madurai city is prohibited.
  • Such vehicles must use the Outer Ring Road to reach their destinations.

Exceptions:

  • Ambulances from Tathaneri Main Road, Tamukkam, and Valluvar Statue Junctions can use their regular routes.
  • Vehicles traveling to Pasumpon via Madurai should avoid entering the city and instead take the bypass roads.

🛵 Important Information for Commuters

From Mattuthavani Bus Stand to Periyar / Arappalayam:
→ KK Nagar Arch → Aavin Junction → A1 Bar Junction → Vaigai North Bank Road → Obula Padithurai Bridge → Vaigai South Bank Road → Yanai Kaal route.

From Periyar Bus Stand to Yanai Kaal / Puthupalam / Natham / Alagarkoil / Melur Roads:
→ Commuters can use their regular routes.

From Arappalayam / Fatima College to Natham / Alagarkoil / Melur / Panagal Roads:
→ Take Sellur Kabaddi Roundana → M.M. Lodge Junction,
or turn right at the roundana and go via Vaigai North Bank Road.

The Madurai City Police requests the public and motorists to cooperate with the temporary traffic regulations implemented in view of Thevar Jayanthi celebrations.
