Why Was the Date Changed? Grand Arrangements Underway!
As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections draw closer, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is gearing up to face the political battlefield. After successfully conducting its first state conference in Vikravandi, party leader Vijay is now preparing for the second major state conference, scheduled for August 21, near the Eliyarpathi toll plaza on the Madurai-Tuticorin National Highway, in Barapathi.
Originally planned for August 25, the date was rescheduled due to Vinayagar Chaturthi.
While many political parties have hosted state conferences, Vijay has reportedly given instructions for a never-before-seen event. To kick things off, a land puja and pole installation ceremony was conducted on July 16, under the leadership of party General Secretary N. Anand.
That same day, a formal request for police security and permission was submitted to Madurai SP Aravind.
Preparations began in full swing shortly after. Materials for stages, marquees, arches, and other infrastructure are being brought in from various regions via trucks and containers.
With just 13 days to go, the work is in high gear. A massive crowd of 20 lakh attendees is expected. For this, the party has rented over 506 acres of land. More than 20 earthmovers are leveling the ground, and over 100 workers are on site, actively engaged in construction. Temporary shelters and basic amenities have also been arranged for their stay and rest.
The activities are being closely monitored by local administrators, with General Secretary Anand visiting periodically to inspect the progress and give guidance.
Work is ongoing for the main stage, including a special rampwalk setup for Vijay, barricades for security, and galleries for light and sound equipment. At the same time, arrangements for drinking water tanks, CCTV surveillance, medical stations, and toilet facilities have also begun.
Opposite the main venue, another 200-acre space is being prepared for vehicle parking for attendees. A giant flag mast is also being constructed, and it’s reported that Vijay will hoist the TVK party flag during the event.
With all eyes on Madurai, TVK’s second state conference is shaping up to be one of the biggest political gatherings in recent Tamil Nadu history. As the countdown begins, the enthusiasm among cadres is soaring – and all signs point to a grand political show of strength under Thalapathy Vijay’s leadership.
