A Vistadome glass-roof coach has been added on a trial basis to the Express train operating between Madurai and Guruvayur via Tenkasi, offering passengers an enhanced view of the scenic Western Ghats. The coach was introduced on October 22 and has reportedly received a strong response from travellers. Featuring large glass windows, a glass roof and 360-degree rotating seats, the air-conditioned coach is designed to let passengers enjoy the region’s mountains, forests and valleys during the journey.
The train travels through scenic stretches around Tenkasi, Sengottai, Puliyara, Aryankavu, Kazhuthurutty and Punalur before continuing through parts of Kerala. The new coach is intended to make the natural landscape along this route a central part of the travel experience.
The addition is expected to appeal particularly to tourists and travellers who enjoy scenic rail journeys through the Western Ghats.
Tenkasi Member of Parliament Rani Srikumar travelled in the new Vistadome coach on its first day after making a reservation. Commenting on the experience, she said that travelling while enjoying the natural scenery was refreshing and enjoyable.
She also expressed hope that the railway administration would consider increasing the number of Vistadome coaches in the future. Her remarks reflect the interest generated by the new facility among passengers seeking a more immersive travel experience.
The new coach has attracted attention from passengers in both Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Its scenic route, which passes through forested hills and picturesque valleys, makes it an appealing option for people looking to combine regular travel with sightseeing.
According to the information released about the service, reservations for the Vistadome coach are reportedly filled until January. The demand has raised expectations among travellers that additional coaches could be considered if the service continues to attract strong interest.
The coach has been introduced on a trial basis, and its future availability and expansion will depend on the railway administration’s decisions. For now, the Vistadome addition offers passengers on the Madurai–Guruvayur route a new way to experience the natural beauty of the Western Ghats.
