Dr Saravanan Joins TVK After AIADMK Exit

In a significant political development that has triggered discussions across Tamil Nadu’s political circles, former MLA and senior medical professional Dr P. Saravanan has officially joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam after resigning from the AIADMK. The Madurai-based leader, who previously shifted from the DMK to the BJP and later to the AIADMK, met TVK General Secretary and Minister ‘Pussy’ N. Anand before formally joining the party. His latest political transition comes shortly after his defeat in the recent Assembly election from the Madurai North constituency as the AIADMK candidate.

Dr P. Saravanan is a well-known physician from Madurai holding MBBS and MD qualifications. He is the chairman of the Saravana Hospital group and is also known for his appearances in films. Apart from his professional achievements, he has remained a familiar face in southern Tamil Nadu politics due to his repeated party transitions and active participation in electoral politics.

Saravanan began his political career with the DMK and gained prominence after winning the 2019 Tirupparankundram Assembly by-election as the party candidate. However, after not receiving a seat for the 2021 Assembly election, he shifted to the BJP and contested from Madurai North, where he suffered defeat. Later, following the controversy involving footwear being thrown at Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan’s car, Saravanan personally met the minister at midnight and apologised before eventually resigning from the BJP.

Political Developments

Dr P. Saravanan, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, AIADMK, Madurai North, ‘Pussy’ N. Anand

2026 Assembly election defeat, internal AIADMK dissatisfaction, southern district political activity, strengthening of TVK structure

DMK to BJP transition, later move to AIADMK, continuing political realignments, growing support shifts towards TVK

Strong influence in Madurai politics, financial strength in election campaigns, former MLA background, resignation of three AIADMK MLAs earlier

Political analysts believe Dr P. Saravanan’s entry into the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam could strengthen the party’s organisational network in southern Tamil Nadu, while the continued exit of senior figures from the AIADMK may create additional pressure for the party leadership ahead of future elections.
