Madurai AIIMS A large medical complex to be fully developed by 2026–27

1. Madurai AIIMS Hospital:
The “AIIMS” (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) hospital being constructed in Madurai is set to become a very important medical teaching center in Tamil Nadu. It will be a large government-run hospital and medical college campus.

2. Project Progress and Works:
Construction of this hospital began in 2019 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone.
The first phase of construction is planned to be completed by January 2026.
The second phase of work is expected to finish by 2027.
Although there were delays in recent years, the work is now progressing rapidly.

3. Features of the Hospital:
It will be a large hospital with 900 beds.
The campus will include a helipad, large parking areas, and solar power infrastructure.

Once the first phase is completed in 2026, medical students currently studying in Ramanathapuram will be transferred to Madurai.

Chief Minister Stalin had earlier criticized the central government for insufficient funding to the Madurai AIIMS, which caused delays in construction.
However, it is now reported that the work is progressing quickly.
