Madurai Power Shutdown on July 18

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has announced a planned power shutdown across several parts of Madurai district on July 18 to facilitate routine maintenance of electricity distribution infrastructure. Power supply will remain suspended from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in many city areas, while selected locations around Melur will experience an outage until 5:00 p.m. The scheduled interruption will enable engineers and field personnel to carry out preventive maintenance, repair minor faults, trim tree branches near power lines, and improve the overall reliability and safety of the electricity network. Residents, commercial establishments and institutions in the affected areas have been advised to make necessary arrangements in advance.

Madurai city, Chithirai Streets, Avani Moola Streets, Velliambalam Street, Nelpettai, Meenakshi Temple surroundings, North and East Masi Streets, Sellur, Karimedu, Arappalayam, Melaponnagaram, Ponnagaram, Tamil Sangam Road, Alagaradi, Bharathiar Road and several adjoining localities

Power supply suspended from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., while Melur, Milk Gate, Venkatesh Nagar, Sandhaipettai, Gandhi Nagar, Ulaganathapuram, Perumalpatti and nearby areas will face an outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., allowing maintenance and safety inspections

Routine monthly maintenance, removal of tree branches near power lines, rectification of minor electrical faults, inspection of distribution infrastructure, improved service reliability, public cooperation requested

Residents are advised to fully charge mobile devices, use battery-powered radios for updates, enable power-saving mode, avoid unnecessary electricity usage before the shutdown, and monitor official announcements regarding restoration.

Electricity Board officials confirmed that power supply will be restored immediately after the scheduled maintenance works are completed, subject to operational safety conditions.
