PM Modi will dedicate multiple railway infrastructure projects undertaken across Tamil Nadu aimed at improving connectivity and efficiency.
  • Electrification of Madurai–Bodinayakkanur Line (90 km):
This ₹99 crore project will promote eco-friendly transport and benefit regular passengers, farmers, students, and small traders in Madurai and Theni districts. The initiative is also expected to support tourism and encourage faster express train services in the region.
  • Doubling of Nagercoil Town–Kanyakumari Section (21 km):
As part of the Thiruvananthapuram–Kanyakumari railway corridor, this ₹650 crore project will significantly strengthen southern Tamil Nadu’s rail connectivity. It will enhance capacity for both passenger and freight trains, contributing to operational efficiency.
  • New Doubling Projects:
PM Modi will lay the foundation for two more railway doubling initiatives:
    • Aralvaimozhi – Nagercoil Junction (12.87 km)
    • Tirunelveli – Melapalayam (3.6 km)
Combined at a cost of ₹283 crore, these will help reduce travel time on key routes like Chennai–Kanyakumari.

Expected Benefits:

  • Enhanced passenger and freight movement
  • Boost to tourism and local economy
  • Faster, greener, and more reliable transport
  • Direct benefits to students, small traders, and farmers
