Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister T. Lokesh Tamilselvan conducted a surprise inspection on Thursday at five Sub-Registrar Offices in Madurai district, including Thiruparankundram, Nagamalai Pudukottai, Vadipatti, Othakadai, and Thirumangalam. During the visit, the minister reviewed registration procedures, examined office operations, and interacted directly with members of the public who had come for document registration services. He sought feedback regarding delays, service quality, and any allegations of bribery or misconduct within the registration process.
The minister also held discussions with officials and staff members regarding the functioning of the offices. He reviewed document registration workflows, pending applications, and measures being taken to improve efficiency and public service delivery. Office registers and records were examined to assess compliance with departmental procedures and transparency standards.

During the inspection, the minister sought details from officials regarding the number of registrations received, completed registrations, and the status of historical registration records. He specifically reviewed whether past document registration details had been accurately uploaded and maintained in official systems. Officials were instructed to ensure proper documentation and maintain updated records without discrepancies.
The minister further directed authorities to improve facilities for visitors, including adequate seating arrangements for the public. He stressed the need for faster processing of document registrations and instructed officials to complete documentation promptly so that registered documents could be handed over on the same day whenever possible. The visit formed part of the government’s broader efforts to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public service delivery within the Registration Department.
Minister T. Lokesh Tamilselvan stated that citizens facing demands for bribes or any form of harassment during document registration should immediately report the matter to him or to officials of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department.
