Madurai Corporation’s newly appointed Commissioner, Gaurav Kumar IAS, has launched a series of extensive field inspections across the city to improve drinking water supply, solid waste management, public health services and civic amenities. The inspections were conducted in several localities including K. Pudur, Lourdes Nagar, Surya Nagar, Nelpettai, Avaniyapuram and Villapuram. During the visits, the Commissioner directly interacted with residents, reviewed service delivery mechanisms and instructed officials to address public grievances without delay. The initiative aims to identify key civic issues at the grassroots level and ensure prompt corrective measures through direct administrative monitoring.
The inspection began at the sanitation division office in Ward 10 at K. Pudur, where the Commissioner examined attendance registers of sanitation workers and staff members. He also reviewed official records and public complaint registers maintained by the department. Officials and employees were instructed to perform their duties efficiently and ensure uninterrupted public services.
As part of efforts to strengthen drinking water distribution, Gaurav Kumar inspected the supply system under the Mullai Periyar Combined Water Supply Scheme. Residents of K. Pudur, Lourdes Nagar and Surya Nagar were consulted regarding the regularity and quality of water supply. He also gathered feedback on street-cleaning activities and waste collection operations to assess service effectiveness.
The Commissioner later visited the Amma Canteen at K. Pudur to evaluate food quality, hygiene standards and kitchen cleanliness. He subsequently inspected the centralized kitchen facility operating under the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme in Nelpettai.
