The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation will operate 5,400 additional special buses from today to meet the expected increase in passenger demand during Vinayagar Chaturthi and the weekend holiday. The special services will connect major destinations from Chennai terminals at Kilambakkam, Koyambedu and Madhavaram, while additional services will also operate from Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode.
The additional buses are being deployed alongside regular services to accommodate passengers travelling to their hometowns during the festival period. Advance reservations show strong demand, with thousands of passengers already booking seats for the holiday travel dates.
The transport authorities have also planned 765 special buses on September 15 to facilitate passengers returning to Chennai and Bengaluru from their hometowns after the holiday period.

The transport corporation has planned additional special buses alongside regular services to manage the expected passenger rush during Vinayagar Chaturthi and the weekend holiday.
From Kilambakkam, 585 special buses will operate today to destinations including Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur.
The number of special services from Kilambakkam will increase to 1,255 buses tomorrow. Another 1,030 special buses will operate the following day, while 650 buses are scheduled for Sunday.
From Koyambedu, 240 special buses will operate tomorrow to Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur and Bengaluru. Another 240 services are scheduled for the following day, followed by 105 special buses on Sunday.
In addition, 200 special buses are planned from Bengaluru, Tiruppur, Erode and Coimbatore to various destinations during the holiday period.
From Madhavaram, 110 special buses will operate each day from tomorrow through Sunday to destinations including Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Vellore, Hosur and Puducherry.
For passengers returning to Chennai and Bengaluru from their hometowns on September 15, the transport authorities have ordered the operation of 765 additional special buses based on passenger demand.
The reservation figures indicate that 8,666 passengers have booked travel for today, while 32,171 have made reservations for tomorrow. Another 18,772 passengers have booked for the following day, 11,177 for Sunday and 23,740 for Monday.
The special services are intended to ease the pressure on regular bus operations and provide additional travel options during the festival and holiday period.
