Hindu Makkal Katchi has strongly opposed the 50% price hike on prasadam items at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple and has urged the temple administration and Tamil Nadu government to immediately roll back the revised rates.
According to party district president M. Solai Kannan, several prasadam items such as sweet pongal, puliyodharai, vadai, appam, laddu, murukku, and puttu, which were previously sold at ₹10, are now priced at ₹15, causing disappointment among devotees.
He condemned the price hike, stating that with thousands of Ayyappa devotees visiting during the Sabarimala season, the sudden increase without any prior consultation or announcement is unacceptable.
He further argued that comparing temple prasadam prices to private restaurants is unreasonable, as the temple has vast assets and revenues donated historically for the welfare of devotees, especially the poor.
If the administration fails to reduce the prices, Hindu Makkal Katchi has warned of pursuing legal and peaceful protests to protect the interests of devotees.
