More than a thousand school and college students in Madurai took part in a large-scale anti-drug awareness human chain organised to protect the younger generation from substance abuse. The event was jointly conducted on Monday by the Star Guru Charitable Trust and Bharathi Hospital, stretching from Gandhi Museum to Rajaji Park Road in the city. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about the growing impact of drug addiction among youth and to encourage collective social responsibility in eliminating the menace. Students stood hand-in-hand, raising slogans such as “Let’s Eradicate Drugs, Save the Next Generation,” emphasizing the urgent need to combat the spread of narcotics in society.

Traffic Inspector Thangamani attended the awareness campaign and addressed students on the harmful effects of drug addiction. He explained how substance abuse affects physical health, mental stability, and social life, urging students to stay alert and avoid falling into addiction. During the programme, Star Guru, founder of the charitable trust, highlighted that drug culture is increasingly destroying an entire generation and called for stronger public participation along with government action to eliminate it.
He also appreciated the Tamil Nadu government’s recent anti-drug marathon initiative in Chennai and stressed that awareness programmes must continue at all levels to protect the future of young people. The organisers said such movements are essential to build a drug-free society and strengthen youth empowerment.
“Eliminating drug culture is the responsibility of every citizen,” Star Guru officially stated.
