In the tax assessment scam involving the Madurai Corporation, the Madurai Bench of the High Court has lauded Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for removing 7 officials from their posts, including several zonal chairpersons.
A complaint was raised that the property tax levied on commercial establishments in the Madurai Corporation was significantly lower than the approved rates. This under-assessment allegedly resulted in a financial loss of approximately ₹150 crore to the corporation.
Chief Minister Stalin directed that 5 zonal chairpersons and 2 standing committee members, who were allegedly involved in the scam, be removed from their posts.
Following this directive, all 7 officials resigned from their respective positions.
