The annual Vaikasi Vasantha festival at Alagar Temple in Madurai district is set to begin on May 22 this year. Temple authorities announced that the festival will commence with Sundararaja Perumal accompanied by Sridevi and Bhoodevi ceremonially entering the Vasantha Mandapam. The celebrations will continue until May 31 with a series of special rituals, decorative services, and spiritual programmes. Thousands of devotees from Madurai and nearby districts are expected to participate in the annual event, which is regarded as one of the important spiritual festivals conducted at the temple during the Vaikasi month. Elaborate preparations have been made to ensure smooth arrangements and provide devotees with a peaceful spiritual experience during the summer season.
Temple premises have been decorated with extensive lighting and floral arrangements ahead of the festival celebrations. Authorities have arranged drinking water facilities, medical aid centres, and resting areas for devotees visiting the temple during the nine-day event. Police personnel and volunteers will jointly oversee crowd management and security arrangements to prevent congestion during peak hours. Traffic regulation measures have also been introduced on major roads leading to the temple to ensure uninterrupted movement of pilgrims and vehicles. Religious observers stated that the Vaikasi Vasantha festival continues to hold cultural and devotional significance among devotees across the region.
