A next-generation robotic surgery platform was inaugurated on Friday at Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital in the Mattuthavani area of Madurai, marking a significant advancement in healthcare services for southern Tamil Nadu. Actor and music composer Vijay Antony, along with actor Prashanth Thyagarajan, jointly launched the advanced robotic surgical system. Hospital authorities said the technology has been introduced to enhance precision, improve patient safety, and deliver better surgical outcomes while enabling faster recovery for patients undergoing complex procedures. The launch is regarded as an important milestone in bringing globally adopted medical technology closer to patients in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gurusankar explained that the robotic system functions entirely under the direct control of the operating surgeon and never performs procedures autonomously. He stated that the platform eliminates the natural tremors of the surgeon’s hands, allowing highly precise movements even in anatomically confined areas. The technology can be used for gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary procedures, urology, gynecology, breast and thyroid surgery, pediatric surgery, and several complex cancer operations. According to him, integrating advanced robotic technology with experienced surgical teams will improve clinical outcomes while reducing recovery time for patients.
Speaking at the event, Vijay Antony said cinema has consistently served as a medium for creating public awareness on contemporary social issues. He revealed that the shooting of his current film is taking place in Madurai and added that his upcoming project will focus on the challenges faced by today’s youth and the values they should embrace. He emphasized that young people and children should strive to lead stress-free and healthy lives through regular physical exercise, balanced nutrition, and disciplined lifestyles. He also welcomed the introduction of internationally recognized robotic surgical technology in Madurai, describing it as a significant step forward for healthcare accessibility in Tamil Nadu.
