Madurai MLA Launches Anti-Bribery Helpline

Madurai North MLA Kallanai has announced a dedicated public helpline for reporting bribery demands in government offices across the constituency as part of a new “Bribe-Free Service Movement.” Citizens have been asked to immediately report any instance of government officials or employees demanding illegal payments by contacting the helpline number 93630 80567. According to the MLA, every complaint will be handled confidentially, brought directly to his attention, and followed by appropriate action. The initiative aims to promote transparent governance, strengthen public trust, and discourage corruption in government services. Awareness boards have also been installed at the MLA’s office stating that no citizen is required to pay a bribe for any service, while awareness stickers have been distributed to reinforce the campaign.

Speaking to reporters later, Kallanai alleged that DMK councillors in Madurai North were obstructing public welfare activities undertaken by members of his party. He claimed that residents approaching councillors with civic grievances were allegedly being directed to seek assistance from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam representatives instead, creating unnecessary political confrontation. He further alleged that party volunteers were being prevented from carrying out public service activities in several parts of the city and maintained that such pressure would not deter them from serving the people.

The MLA also expressed hope that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay would participate in the upcoming Meenakshi Amman Temple Kumbabishekam, describing it as both his party’s wish and the expectation of many people. He said a proposal seeking development projects worth around ₹400 crore for Madurai had been submitted for consideration in the state budget and expressed confidence that the city would receive significant allocations. Responding to criticism from former AIADMK and DMK ministers, Kallanai said such remarks were politically motivated and argued that correcting shortcomings from previous administrations would require time.

Kallanai reaffirmed that all bribery complaints received through the helpline would remain confidential and would be acted upon through appropriate administrative channels.
